A chiminea on your back
porch! What is a great way to enjoy some of the best
parts of camping while never leaving your home? Missy Boo and her sisters love camping but
not everyone can get out to the great outdoors. Also called a
fire pit, they are a great way to enjoy the benefits of a
campfire. As you sit around your fire you will be amazed at how
much you feel like you are at camp.
We have had one on
our back deck for the past 5 years and we love it. Friends and
family come over, we start a fire, roast marshmallows, make s'mores and
just sit around and talk and laugh. We find it very relaxing and it
is hardly any work at all.
You can use firewood if you want to. We don't even
bother with that. We live near a wooded lot so we usually just walk
over and pick up branches that are laying on the ground. The
branches break up easily and with a little newspaper to get things
started, voila! A Campfire!
Most areas have burning laws now and chimineas are a legal way
to enjoy a fire. You'll also want to make sure you are safe with your
fire. The bottom surface can get very hot. If your's is located on a wood surface, you'll
need to protect the wood from the heat.
Chimineas come in many different styles and the prices vary
greatly too. You can get a small inexpensive one for around $100 or if you
like the more elegant looking models you can spend close to $3000.
My mother and stepfather used to own a lawn ornament business so I got
mine for unloading an 18 wheeler full of lawn ornaments from Mexico.
I think I got a great deal.
